The founder and leader of Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has called on the Arewa people in Yoruba land (northerners in Southwest) to remain law abiding and not allow themselves to be used in negative ways over the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

Kwankwaso also urged the Arewa people to see Southwest region as their home and the people as brothers and sisters, even as he advised them to cooperate with governments at all levels to enhance sustenance of relative peace in the zone.

The former governor of Kano State and presently, the presidential candidate of New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) spoke to Newsmen on Saturday shortly after the inauguration of the South West Executive of Arewa Consultative Forum and conferment of the Award of Peace Ambassador on governor Dapo Abiodun in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Kwankwaso who was represented by the NNPP governorship candidate in Ogun State, Chief Jackie Adunni Kassim, said he believes in what Arewa Consultative Forum is doing to give their members a potent voice, urging them to continue to work for the peace, stability and unity of Southwest and Nigeria.

He said, "With the situation of Nigeria today, everybody has to know that we are still one no matter the rumours, everybody should just have a free mind to go about their business and do their jobs. They should not listen to rumours because rumours kill, this one will hear one thing and by the time he sends the message to the next point, it is either minus or plus.

The message keeps magnifying from one to another. Nigerians should be wary of purveyors of fake news and their platforms. We should not heed to divisive messages. Paper and pen could be very dangerous. So, Nigerians should be on guard against rumours and the pedlers.

"I urge northerners in Ogun West and SouthWest to be peaceful and law abiding so that the prevailing peaceful relations and harmony will endure. I urge you to see Southwest as your home, cooperate with people and governments in Southwest to ensure that peace continue to reign everywhere. Politics is coming now, don't be used in the negative ways."

Also speaking, Governor Abiodun called on Nigerians to eschew politics of rancour and acrimony, but give serious consideration to the future of the country.

Abiodun noted that it was time to engage in activities that would unite rather than divide the country.

He said: "Let me use this opportunity to inform our people that politics and politicking towards next year's general elections have already begun, and we must all shun the politics of rancour and acrimony. We should rather consider the greater good of our nation as paramount in our thoughts and deeds.

"We must not allow politics to truncate what we have enjoyed in Ogun State. This administration has done everything within its capacity to lower the political temperature, to ensure that all issues relating to crime, criminalities and thuggery are lowered so that our people can be free to go about their  businesses.

"I want to thank the Miyetti Allah chairman who in his remarks stated that in Ogun State, everyone is free to go about their legitimate businesses at any time of the day. I therefore urged all our people to continue in their support and cooperation and also in prayers, together, we will build a state that is enviable by others", he said.
