Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has Suspended the newly appointed Transition Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon Mbaulike Iloka, over an assault leading to his wife's death on Sunday.

It was alleged that Hon. Mbazulike's wife caught him when he picked some young girls she suspected to be his mistresses  at a social gathering the couple attended on Saturday evening.

Family members and friends of late Mrs. Chidiebere Iloka, alleged that he beats his wife to death following argument that ensued between them on Sunday morning over the suspected strange girls.

But Hon. Mbazulike claimed his wife slumped and died suddenly shortly after serving him breakfast.

However, family sources hinted that people who found Chidiebere’s corpse on the ground claimed they saw marks of bruises and cuts on her body.

The letter of suspension was signed by the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr Tony Nwabunwanne, and made available to journalists on Friday.

In the said letter, the chairman was directed to hand over to the head of local government administration to avoid interfering in the investigation.

It stated that the chairman was suspended over the massive outcry that his wife’s death generated with the possibility of homicide.

Titled, ‘Letter of suspension from office’, it read, “Following the sad news of the death of your wife, late Mrs Chidiebere Iloka, on August 7, 2022, there has been a massive outcry over the circumstances leading to her death, including alleged possible homicide.

“While you are presumed innocent until the completion of the investigation, it has become imperative that you step aside to allow unfettered investigation and justice.

“Consequently, you are directed to step aside and to hand over the affairs of the local government to the head of local government administration not later than August 12, 2022, until further notice.”

Mbazulike was in office for about a week before his suspension came.
