Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has been released from the Uyo Correctional Centre after spending one month at the facility on the order of Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Ekaette Obot.

Inibehe was sent to prison by Chief Justice Ekaette Obot for contempt of court.

He was received on Friday morning by tens of supporters, who accorded him a heroic welcome as they marched round jubilantly.

The activist lawyer posted a video of his being out of the prison on his Facebook, Friday morning, and captioned it “History will vindicate the just.”

Inibehe served the first two weeks of his 30 days sentence at the Ikot Ekpene Custodial Center of the Nigeria Correctional Service and completed the remaining days at Uyo Custodial Centre.

Days earlier, he was reportedly abused by prison officials who scraped his hair and beard.

“I am back, stronger and more determined to confront the forces of oppression and to continue to speak nothing but the hard truth to the faces of the oppressors of our people. I feel sorry for those who thought they can break my spirit by incarcerating me,” he added in another post.
