Multiple vehicles accident has left 11 people burnt to death and seven others with injuries when one of the vehicles caught fire after it crashed.

The accident which occurred on Saturday night some metres away from Isara bridge at Ogere(Ogun State) corridor of Lagos - Ibadan expressway, involved three vehicles - two Mazda buses and a car.

None of them had registration number and the impact of the crash set off an explosion and then fire, which charred 11 people.

Superintendent Route Commander Florence Okpe FRSC who is the Public Education Officer for Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ogun Sector Command, disclosed this in a release on behalf of the Sector Commander, Ahmed Umar.

Umar said a total of 18 persons were involved but seven were rescued while 11 people unidentified were burnt beyond recognition.

He said the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital Ogere for medical attention while one of the victims that was rejected by the hospital was later taken to Babcock University Teaching Hospital.

According to him, Fire Service operatives in Sagamu were contacted to extinguish the fire while traffic was also diverted to Lagos-Ibadan bound lane due to the obstruction created on the entire Ibadan - Lagos bound lane by the accident.

Umar attributed the cause of the multiple crash to excessive speed and dangerous driving, describing the crash as an avoidable one if caution had been taken by obeying traffic rules and regulations with much concentration while driving.

The Sector Commander who is deeply pained by the unfortunate incidents, advised motorists to drive cautiously when approaching marked zone.
