An activist and former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Dani, has decried the directive of the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Bishop Calistus Onaga, asking Catholic faithful to stay away from the Adoration Ministry of Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka.

Sani who likened Bishop Onaga's ban on Mbaka’s Adoration Ministry to the removal of Sheikh Khalid as Imam of Apo Juma’at mosque, urged Nigerians to tolerate people of different political views.

The Daily Crucible recalls that Mbaka’s outburst against the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, elicited scathing condemnations from many people of Southeast origin, forcing the Enugu Catholic Diocesan authority to sanction the Adoration ministry promoter.

In a letter he personally signed and addressed to ‘All the Clergy, Religious and Lay Faithful in the Catholic Diocese of Enugu’, Onaga said all Catholics were banned from having anything to do with the Adoration Ministry, citing relevant Canon laws to justify the ban.

But reacting to the development, Sani likened Mbaka’s plights to the recent sack of Sheikh Khalid as Imam of Apo Juma’at mosque.

He noted that like Khalid who was removed for criticising President Muhammadu Buhari's government, said Mbaka was sanctioned due to his views.

“Asking Catholics not to attend the Church of Father Mbaka because of his political views is the same as removing Sheikh Khalid as Imam of Apo Juma’at mosque because of his views. We are different only when we tolerate views other than ours,” the former lawmaker stated.
