APC Presidential Primary: Delegate Slumps, Dies In Abuja

A delegate for the presidential primary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from Jigawa State, Isah Baba-Buji, has died after slumping.

Voting for the primary election to elect APC presidential candidate commences at 6pm today. Already, accreditation of eligible delegates had been concluded.
 
Whoever emerges winner will face former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the main election next year.

Three party delegates from each of the 774 local governments across Nigeria are eligible to vote in the primary.

A total of 23 presidential aspirants are taking part in the primary. Some of them include frontline runner and National leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,  Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Ahmad Lawan, and ex-transport minster Rotimi Amaechi.

However, delegate Baba-Buji who was the APC vice chairman for Jigawa Southwest, was said to have slumped and drew his last breathe while taking his breakfast on Tuesday in Abuja.

The APC spokesperson in Jigawa, Bashir Kundu, told reporters that delegate the was pronounced dead while taking his breakfast preparatory to moving to Eagle Square, the venue of the party convention.

Mr Kundu said Mr Baba-Buji’s body had been prepared for evacuation to Jigawa State for burial rites.
