Man Arrested For Selling Wife, Son N2m To Traffickers

The Police have arrested a 36-  year old man, Kingsley Essien, for trafficking his wife to Mali for prostitution and subsequently selling her two year - old son at the rate of N600,000:00 to a buyer.

Kingsley's wife identified as Bright Essien who returned to Nigeria after she was trafficked to Bamako, Mali, by her husband reported the alleged crime at Agbara divisional headquarters, Ogun State.

She told the police that sometime in October 2021, her husband, Kingsley Essien, informed her that he had secured a job for her in Bamako, Mali, and that he had helped many people to migrate to the Francophone country in search of greener pastures.

She explained to the detectives that she didn't suspect any foul play from her hubby until she got to Mali and discovered to her shock that she had been sold off to human trafficking cartel headed by a unnamed woman at the rate of N1.4m million naira and that while in Mali, she was compelled to take to prostitution.

According to her, she later found her way to the Nigeria Embassy in Bamako where she was assisted to return to Nigeria.

She however added that when she eventually landed in Nigeria, she also discovered that her two years old son left in the custody of her husband was no where to be found.

Acting upon her report, the Divisional Police Officer for Agbara division, Abiodun Salau, mobilised detectives to go after the suspect, and eventually arrested him.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who disclosed this to newsmen on Thursday, stated that 
the suspect said he had ssold the two years old son to a buyer at the rate of six hundred thousand naira(N600,0000:00).

Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) said the suspect will be transferred to the anti human trafficking and child labour unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department(SCIID) for discreet investigation while the buyer of the son must also be traced and arrested in order to recover the stolen child.
