A wave of joy, excitement and jubilation swept through Ilaro, the Headquarters of Yewa South Local Government, cascading into the rest of Ogun West as Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola floored incumbent Senator Tolu Odebiyi to pick the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial ticket for the district ahead of 2023 election.

Adeola who is the chairman, Senate Committee on Finance, scored 294 votes to defeat Tolu Odebiyi who polled zero vote.

A total of 294 delegates cutting across the district's five local governments, were accredited for voting in the primary and all of them voted for Adeola popularly called YAYI.

A breakdown of the voting showed Adeola scoring the following: Imeko - 49, Ado Odo Ota -  80, Ipokia -60, Yewa North - 55 and
Yewa South - 50 votes.

Earlier before the commencement of the primary, Senator Tolu Odebiyi, had claimed that he was the only person in the race for the All Progressives Congress, APC, ticket ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The Senatorial district primary election for Ogun West was conducted inside Orona Hall, Ilaro, the Headquarters of Yewa South Local Government Area of the State.

Odebiyi who hails from Iboro town in Ogun West, battled without success for a return ticket of the APC.

When the Senator arrived the venue around 12:48pm with some of his supporters tailing behind, he had expressed the confidence that he would triumph at the primary while speaking with reporters.

According to him, each of the two other aspirants - Hon. Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade and three - time governorship candidate in the state, Prince Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka (GNI) had stepped down days earlier to take up House of Representatives tickets respectively.

Signs that the pendulum would not swing in Odebiyi's favour, manifested around 1:28pm when his main challenger, Adeola, arrived amid rousing welcome by a crowd of supporters, who bombed him with affections.
• Jubilation

The chairman of Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Solomon Adeola(YAYI) whose expression of interest and nomination forms were purchased for him  by  no fewer than 81 people from Ogun West, including octogenarians, expressed the confidence that heeding the calls of his people to return home would bring more blessings to the zone.

294 delegates cutting across five local government areas in Ogun West are expected to cast their votes at the primary where Dr. Dapo Odukoya is chairman of APC Senatorial Primary Committee.

In Ogun East comprising nine local government areas, the incumbent Senator Lekan Mustapha is going to shrug it out this afternoon with a frontline contender to the seat and former governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

Unofficial information has it that two paramount rulers, Awujale of Ijebuland and Akarigbo of Remoland have all agreed to cede the senatorial ticket to Remo axis of the Senatorial district, all suggesting that Mustapha will step down for Daniel who ancestral line cuts across Remo and Ijebu.

In Ogun Central, Shuaib Salisu, who is the Chief of Staff to governor Dapo Abiodun, is expected to clinch the APC Senate ticket and hopefully, succeeds Senator Ibikunle Amosun, who is battling to get the presidential ticket of the party.
