Gunmen Kill Policeman, Set Ablaze Anambra Broadcasting Service Office

Gunmen have struck again in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, killing a yet - to - be identified policeman and took his rifle away.

The gunmen also invaded and burnt the premises of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Awada, Onitsha station.

The attack and killing of a policeman in Ogidi occurred on Sunday while the State's broadcasting station was razed on Monday morning.

The gunmen were said to have stationed themselves close to Ogidi Town Hall, near a police checkpoint, shot dead a policeman on sight and dispossessed him of his AK-47 rifle.

The state police command spokesperson, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, said killing occurred when police operatives on observation patrol along Abatete Expressway, Ogidi, engaged some armed hoodlums in a gun battle.

Ikenga said that during exchange of fire, one of the police operatives was fatally wounded and due to the superior fire of the police, the gunmen fled.

He said: “Meanwhile, Operation is still ongoing and patrol has been intensified in the area.Further development shall be communicated please."

Also, unidentified gunmen in the early hours of Monday, invaded the premises of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Awada, Onitsha station and burnt the premises.

The arsonists reportedly burnt a building, a company bus, and another vehicle belonging to a staff member parked on the premises.
