Advocacy Group Tasks Govt On Unemployment Reduction, Women Empowerment

Group chairman, Ogun State Business Advocacy Group (OGUNBAG),  Otunba Babs Adesanya, has called on governments to do more in its quest to reduce unemployment through capacity building and provision of sustainable opportunities for the youths and women  in order to grow the Socioeconomic environment of Ogun State.

Adesanya made the call while declaring its conference open during the 5th Annual General meeting of the group  in Abeokuta, the state capital.

OGUNBAG is a viable platform for Public- Private Dialogue to influence policies and improve Business Enabling Environment for investment and business expansion in Ogun State.

 The conference Theme is "Capacity Building and Empowerment; a Panacea for women and Youth Employment."

The Keynote Speaker Dr Akinpelu Shogunle posited that the best way to eradicate poverty and drastically reduce poverty is to empower young people and women to be job creator through Enterprise education.


Shogunle who is the MD/CEO of Highlander Engineering Limited further stated that Helping young people and women to earn a living through entrepreneurship could go a long way towards poverty reduction.

Also speaking the Assistant Director of Ogun State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC( Rev. Dr Samson Oluwole representing the State Coordinator Dr Melinda Faniyi emphasized the need for the Public and Private sector to invest in skills acquisition and entrepreneurial development to bridge the increasing unemployment gap. 

He furthered said that a nation capacity is benchmarked on the investment of critical stakeholders in the  Enterprising Skills of its youth and women.

The State Commissioner in the Ministry of Industries, Trade and Investment Mrs Kikelomo Longe  represented by Mr Ariyibi Olalere, the Director of Commerce within the Ministry appealed to all stakeholders to partner with the Government of Ogun State, the  Ministry and other relevant agencies of Government in the area of economic empowerment as envisioned by the Prince Dapo Abiodun - led administration through vocational training, skills acquisition and any other enterprising activities aimed at promoting wealth and building the capacity of young people for sustainable development.

Goodwill Messages were delivered from other invited groups such as Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMADC), National Association of Small Scale Industries (NASSI), Ogun State Cooperative Federation and Development and many more

The Conference witnessed the swearing in ceremony of Mr. Ola-Davies Olatunji Olakunle as Incoming Chairman and other executives among who are Mr. Abiodun Dimeji Lasile (1st Vice Chairman), Mr. Gbolahan Akintobi (2nd Vice Chairman), Mr Babatunde Soaga (General Secretary), Mr Cyrus Johnson (Treasurer), Mr Ifeoluwa Adesanya (Public Relations Officer), Mr Sheriff Olaleye (Assistant General Secretary), Mr Olakunle Akinbogun (Auditor), Mr Olusola Kehinde Adediran (Ex-officio) and Otunba Babs Adesanya (Immediate Past President and Ex-officio)
