'Gov Obaseki Is An Ungrateful Person, A Serial Betrayal' - Wike

The exchange of fiery diatribes between
Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and his Edo counterpart, Godwin Obaseki, worsened on Monday with Wike
describing the latter as an ungrateful person and a serial betrayal.

Wike said Edo Governor’s former godfather and former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomole, had been vindicated.

He also tendered an unreserved apology to Oshiomole for ignoring his timely warnings about Obaseki, saying everything Oshiomole had said about the character of the Edo Governor came to pass.

“If you ask anybody or check the DNA of Obaseki, you will discover that he is a serial betrayer and an ungrateful person.

” I apologise to Oshiomole who told us about Obaseki. You have been vindicated,” he said.

Wike who spoke while inaugurating a Community Secondary School, Omuanwa, in Rivers state, maintained that he had contributed to the fortune of the party more than Obaseki.

“I am not in the class of Obaseki, never! We are not the same, we can’t be the same. I was the DG of his campaign, I went there (referring to Edo) for three days.

"Obaseki said I'm a bully, but he came to beg a bully for ticket, a bully was his campaign DG, and a bully bullied him into Edo state government house.

"It didn't end there, he still came back with his wife to thank the bully after the election.

"I slept in Edo State for three days just to deliver Obaseki, but today, I'm a bully.

"If you check the DNA of Obaseki, what you'll see is betrayal, serial betrayal and ungratefulness.

"He said I threatened PDP, assuming without conceding that I threatened PDP, I have every right to do so, I have invested in the party. Rivers State has invested in the party.

"Rivers State is one of the few states that has voted PDP since 1999, we have invested in the party"

"You're a tenant in PDP, I have more stake in PDP than you.

"You said I'm causing crisis in Edo state, I have capacity, that is why I'm causing crisis. I challenge you to come and cause crisis in Rivers state, then you'll know who is who.

"Obaseki, I challenge you to defect back to the APC, we'll shave your head. I know those using you, if I decide to run for President, I will win all of you. The game has started, I will make you loose weight.

“I stayed there without having my bath. I have never seen somebody like that in my life – a serial betrayer.

“Let me tell you Obaseki, I know your cohorts and I will smoke all of you out. This is not the Benin artefact that you were challenging the Oba (of Benin), this is politics.

“Obaseki, I have more stake in PDP than you. I have fought for this party, mention one thing that you have done for the PDP.”

The Daily Crucible recalls that Obaseki had earlier warned Wike not to cause disruption in PDP,  maintaining that all members are equal under the platform.

The governor was responding to Wike’s outburst on his Deputy, Philip Shaibu, over the concerns Shaibu raised about how they were being treated in PDP following their defection to the party.

Obaseki, in a statement he personally signed on Monday, informed Wike that the party belongs to all members and that no member can claim ownership of it.

“It clearly amounts to delusion of grandeur, for any one man to nurse the idea that he owns or has more stake in the PDP and everyone should pander to him.

“We are all equal stakeholders in the party and an aggregate of the ideas, opinions, and contributions of all leaders and members should form the position of the party and not the view of one individual or a select few,” Obaseki said
