The remains Oba Saliu Adetunji, the 41st Olubadan, were taken back to his Popoyemoja palace at about 4:35pm for burial after the prayer.

Oba Saliu Adetunji was interred at his Popoyemoja Palace amid tears and weeping from grieving Ibadan people and residents who submerged the palace.

Earlier, Oloko, the Palace spokesperson had said that :“The 41st Olubadan of Ibadanland, and Chairman, Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1 has joined his ancestor.

“Oba Adetunji, 93, passed away in the early hours of this morning at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan.

“He is survived by his wife, Olori Rashidat Ololade Adetunji, Children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

“He will be buried at 4.00 pm today at his Popoyemoja, Ibadan Palace according to Muslim rites. Other things follow later.”

Director of Media and Publicity, Adeola Oloko, titled, “Olubadan passes on, to be buried today,” Oloko stated.

Meanwhile, permutations have since commenced regarding the likely successor of Oba Adetunji.

Already, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadan land, Senator Lekan Balogun's name keeps popping up as next in line as the Olubadan of Ibadan according to the laid down hierarchy of ascension to the Ibadan throne.

The hierarchical arrangement in the Ibadan system shows a two line approach, the Balogun system and the Olubadan (Otun) system.

Olubadans are appointed on rotational basis to occupy the stool on the death of a monarch. The next to Olubadan and most senior on both lines are the Otun Olubadan and Balogun.

Oba Saliu Adetunji was crowned the 41st Olubadan of Ibadan following his coronation on March 4, 2016.

Prior to his coronation, Oba Adetunji was the Balogun of Ibadan land which indicates that the Otun Olubadan, Senator Lekan Balogun may be next in line according to the rotational system.

Oba Adetunji died in the early hours of Sunday at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, Oyo state at the age of 93.
