Following the fourth wave of COVID-19 in the country, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has said he will not host any get-together to mark the new year 2022.
Abiodun said the announcement has become necessary to clear the speculations that he will be hosting a party today, Sunday, at his Iperu-Remo home, Ogun State.
"The usual celebration will not hold this year to avoid undermining the efforts to combat COVID-19 in the State, and rolling back the success that has been recorded, particularly in view of the fourth wave of the pandemic," he said.
The governor who made this known In a statement on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, enjoins the residents of the State to celeberate in moderation and observe all COVID-19 protocols.
He expresses hope that ongoing global efforts will soon sufficiently tame the pandemic to allow for the usual pomp, peasantry and large gathering that new year get-together attracts. Once again, he wishes all a happy and more prosperous new year, the statement concluded.
