ICYMI : Gov Ugwuanyi Consoles Woman Whose Son Was Killed For Money Ritual By Her Husband

The Governor of Enugu  State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi,  has visited Mrs. Augustina Eze whose 7-year-old son was hacked to death for money ritual by her husband, Chidi Onyishi, who also doubled as the slain boy's father.

Earlier, Onyishi Chidi Enugu was arrested by the police for allegedly killing his son for money rituals 

A pastor was also arrested in connection with the crime, according to the police.

 Police spokesperson in Enugu, Daniel Ndukwe, had in a statement on Thursday, said the man’s seven-year-old son was reported missing on October 22, before it was later discovered that he was killed for ritual.

Mr Ndukwe, an assistant superintendent of police, said following receipt of the information on the search for the missing child, police arrested his father, Onyishi Chidi, 36, on November 6 at Coal Camp, Enugu.

“Chidi confessed to the crime and led police operatives to arrest a blind pastor, Okeke Eneokwor, 95, whom he fingered as an accomplice.

“He also led police operatives and a medical team to a stream at Abakpa-Nike, Enugu, where the decomposing corpse of the minor was exhumed from a shallow grave,” he stated.

The police spokesperson said the commissioner of police in the state, Lawal Abubakar, had ordered a “thorough and conclusive” investigation into the crime.

“The commissioner also directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to expedite action on the investigation to ensure the prosecution of everyone found culpable in the act,” he added.

Disturbed by the alleged act of cruelty and wickedness by father against a son who is a minor, governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi visited the mother of the boy to comfort her. 

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, Steve Oruruo, who led a delegation from Gov. Ugwuanyi to commiserate with the grieving woman and her children, said that the state government will stand vigorously behind them to overcome the shock and lessen their suffering.

Oruruo disclosed that the governor was saddened by the news of the unfortunate incident, condoled with the woman and her children, praying for the repose of the murdered child’s soul.

He noted that  the act perpetrated by the father of six was “unimaginable and unthinkable by all standards.”

 “We want to reassure you that the state government will stand vigorously behind you and mitigate the suffering of your kids and contribute immensely to your recovery from this shock.

"And it is the wish of the government to use all legal means to ensure that there is diligent investigation and that the course of justice cannot be subverted. The government is poised not to allow it to be truncated.

"Everything that needs to be done will be done by Enugu State government to ensure that you find justice and overcome this challenge.

"Our governor is a good-minded person who is interested in your wellbeing and that of your children. So he has sent us to come and commiserate with you and reassure you that you will not stand alone. Government will be with you and will give you support as we pray that God will give you stronger reason to find comfort.

"The governor has delivered the sum of five hundred thousand naira (N500,000.00) to you and your kids in the interim and every other thing that should be done will be done and this interface will continue between you and the state government to ensure that you and your children are comfortable,” he said.
