Dozens Of prominent Yewa Indigenes have declared their full support of the plan by the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, and Yewa Traditional Coincil to confer the title of Aremo Of Yewaland on Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly called Yayi.

These prominent sons and daughters of Yewaland said the choice of Adeola, who is the senator representing Lagos West in the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly as well as the Chairman,  Senate Committee on Finance, is in order and hailed the monarch and the Yewa Traditional Council for making the right decision.
          ••• Group Kicks

In a curious twist, a sociocultural group, Ogun West Liberation Forum, last Friday kicked against the move by the Olu of Ilaro to confer the Pan-Yewa title on Senator Adeola.

The group challenged the eligibility of Yayi for the traditional title, which it deemed as highly revered and called on Oba Olugbenle not to make Yayi the Aremo Of Yewaland.

The vice-chairman, Wale Akinwande claimed that the origin of 'Yayi' has been a source of concern to the relevant stakeholders of Yewaland.

Akinwande argued that the Aremo Oba of Yewaland is highly coveted traditional Chieftaincy title that should be conferred only on an indigene of Yewaland, whose lineage is known and can be confirmed with incontrovertible proofs.

He maintained that it is "merit defective in tradition, insulting to culture and absolutely illogical" to install someone who is not a prince as the Aremo Oba of Yewaland

•••Indigenes Back Traditional Rulers

However, defending the  Royal Fathers, the prominent Yewa indigenes in a release signed by them, including physician and former Commissioner in Ogun State,  Dr. Kunle Salako, declared their unflinching support for the Paramount ruler's decision, saying the "conferment is well deserved by the conferee, judging by his numerous contributions to Yewaland and the overwhelming accolades it has received from far and wide."

A copy of the release  was made available to The Daily Crucible on Sunday,

Signatories to the release backing the paramount ruler on the Aremo title are Hon. Jemili Akingbade, Hon. (Mrs) Lateefat Ajayi,Hon. Haruna Eegungboun, Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju, Biodun Oluseye, PhD,  Ajiroba Dapo Oke, Chief Jubreel Elegbede,  Hon. Zacheus Omoloye, Hon. Bode Fagbenro,  Physician and former Commission,  Dr Kunle Salako, Hon. Sunday Kojeku,  Hon. Micheal Kudoro and Chief (Mrs) Sade Yemitan.

Others are Hon. Tunde Bankole, Akeem Lamidi, PhD, Mr Safari Toheeb, Prince Ayo Akanbi, Alhaji Tijani Rabiu,  Oweyon Abiodun, Alh.(Hon.) Isiaka Aderounmu
Hon. (Chief) Bankole Joel, JP,  Hon. Kamor Oduntan, Avoseh Johnson, Otunba Bisi Oyedele, Hon. (Mrs) Funmi Olaiju,  Mr Tajudeen Olaleye, Mr Joseph Olumoro,
Alh. Raheem Bariyu and former elected Chairman of Imeko - Afon Local Government Area of Ogun state,  Hon. (Chief) Albert Asipa.

The signatories heartily congratulated Senator Adeola (YAYI) and others on their respective conferment of Pan Yewa chieftaincy titles, even as they dismissed the petition against the move as "mischievous and frivolous."

According to them, the petition by Ogun West Liberation,  is a ploy to destabilise Yewaland and by extension, Ogun West for selfish political gains by the sponsors.

Dr Salako  and others also alleged that aides and hirelings of a former governor of the Gateway State, whom they claimed, has never hidden his disdain for the person of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI), were responsible for the petition.

The release reads in part : "We are in the knowledge of a mischievous and frivolous petition authored by some conscripts who obviously are being remoted by their paymasters in an attempt to destabilise Yewaland and by extension, Ogun West for selfish political gains.
"The conferment in question is not only within the purview of Yewa Traditional Council but also a collective decision of the Council under the Paramount Ruler of Yewaland; His Royal Majesty, Oba Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle MFR.
"We are also aware that there are other Pan Yewa Titles already approved to be conferred on other notable personalities across Yewaland home and abroad by the Yewa Traditional Council.
" It is instructive to state that the decision is in consonance with the customary and chieftaincy law of Ogun State, which give the authority to the Paramount Ruler and the Traditional Council to confer Chieftaincy Title as they deem fit.
" A close scrutiny of the petitioners shows that they are known Aides and political surrogates of a former governor of Ogun State who has never hidden his disdain for the person of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI).
"We therefore deduce that the motive of the petition is to politicise a purely traditional matter and create a semblance of crisis in Yewaland where actually, there is none.
"It is unfortunate that a few elements have offered themselves to blackmail and create an unfounded crisis in order to desecrate the exalted Yewa Traditional Institutions. We are also aware that the petitioners have failed to approach the Paramount Ruler or the Traditional Council for any clarification before going to the press; of course, they will not tow such honourable line as their intent and purpose are very mischievous.
"As bonafide and proud Indigenes of Yewaland, we condemn unequivocally this act of betrayal of our heritage and the attempted desecration of many sacred crowns of Yewaland.
"We join numerous others to appreciate the Paramount Ruler and Yewa Traditional Council over the conferment of Pan Yewa Titles on deserving Yewa Sons and Daughters. We also which to encourage our Traditional Rulers to keep up the progressive and unifying gesture for the betterment of our land.
"We call on well meaning individuals to disregard the falsehood and propaganda being bandied around, designed to promote ulterior political agenda of a non Yewa Indigene with the active connivance of his few cohorts in the land. We implore these few elements who are currently being used as pawns to bastardise our cherished values, to desist from this ignoble act. They should rather emulate the conferees in character, meaningful contribution and in fostering development in Yewaland  so that they may be considered for such exalted honour in future."
••• Ogun West Liberation Forum On Fraudulent Mission, Says Baairoyin Of Yewaland

Also reacting, the Baairoyin of Yewaland, Chief Kayode  Odunaro, described the Ogun West Liberation Forum as a faceless and inconsequential group on a fraudulent mission.

Odunaro who is the media aide of the Senator, said the faceless group and its leader,  one Wale Akinwande, lacked the locus standing to peer into matters of Yewa traditional institutions, adding that their petition carries no effect on the title.

He said: "The Yewa traditional rulers had written to him about the title and the Senator has written back to them through an official letter accepting it. It is a done deal. So,  why are they jumping up and down ? It is  because they want to pull Senator Adeola down. He is too popular for them,  they have not seen the likes of him in all their lives.

"As far as we are concerned,  they are making the title and the Senator more popular. They did not say he stole money,  they are only saying he was given a prestigious chieftaincy title title and these people are running up and down. The people behind these things,  their levels are currently below what is going on now.

"They are writing  petition to the governor. These people are fraudulent people because they did a press conference in Abeokuta but on the text of the press conference reflected that they did it in a hotel in Ilaro. So, that means there is a fraud already.  The press statement is all over the social media. So,  a fraud is already established and anything they say shows that they are sponsored people to cause disaffection.

"The point is : do they even the locus standi to dabble into this matter? They don't have. The issue of Aremo is done and dusted. If you are talking of ceremony, anybody can do ceremony any time.  When you give birth to a child today,  you can do ceremony, Yoruba will do ceremony after eight days and the Igbos do it after three months or anytime. That does not kill a child. The child is there already. You can't abort a child that has already been born. They are reacting because they saw it(the title) as a major blow to them."
