Ogun APC Chairmanship Race : Why I Stepped Down - Nuberu

| The Daily Crucible | Published Monday, October 18, 2021

A major contender for the position of State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State in the just concluded congress of the party,  Hon.  Nuberu Olufemi, has given insight into why he stepped down some minutes to the commencement of the exercise on Saturday.

Nuberu who hails from Ogun East Senatorial district,  said he elected to withdraw from the race at the eleventh  hour after the "party leaders, especially governor Dapo Abiodun, had fruitfully intervened" in the matter.

That critical decision at the MKO Abiola Int'l Stadium, Abeokuta, on October 16,  paved way seamlessly for Chief Yemi Sanusi's election as State Chairman of the party through consensus arrangement via voice affirmation of 1,730 delegates drawn from 236 wards of the State's 20 Local Government Areas.

The Grassroots politician and former State Coordinator of the APC Presidential Campaign Council Field Operation Department in Ogun State, told The Daily Crucible on Monday that the need to respect the intervention of the governor and the party leaders informed why he conceded the mandate to run for the office  unconditionally.
The ex - Student Union leader,  Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago - Iwoye,  also dispelled misconceptions that he had accepted a different State executive office of the party afterwards, saying there was nothing like that as no office was offered to him after stepping down.

He equally expressed an unalloyed gratitude to his amily members, party members, associates among numerous others, who stood by him in many fronts while the race for the Ogun APC state chairmanship seat lasted.

He said: "We thank all members of our party, whose belief in us led to our resoluteness in the aspiration for the state Chairmanship  of our party in the  just concluded state congress. While many misconstrued our courage for affront and our determination for stubbornness, we thank God for the very late but, fruitful intervention of our party leaders , most specifically His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR.

"Although, the core purpose of our involvement in the  contest was creditably achieved, yet the agreement of stances by our Central Campaign Planning Committee, our party leadership and my personal conviction to respect the interventions of the very dignified Executive Governor's office made us to concede the mandate unconditionally.

"There is a need to lucidly clear the misconception on the Assistant State Secretary office owing to the congratulatory messages to me, I, Comrade Nuberu Adesanya Olufemi,  never accepted any office in the state executive.

"We therefore express my profound appreciations  to  all our comrades all over the country for making there financial and professional resources bear on the ambition, particularly the very articulate cadres  from  National Activist Forum, Olabisi Onabanjo University, The APC Unity & Peace Forum, Ijebu North Local Government, our sponsors from the 20LGs areas, The Dapo Abiodun Youth Movement (DAYM), Independent Campaign Group (ICG), the irrepressible OGSG New Media, the very patriotic Nigeria media, our team of volunteered legal luminaries and the technically enlisted 632 state delegates, loyal to the aspiration across the state. Your sacrifices are well appreciated and your doggedness shall not be in vain."
