How Ondo-Born Dayo Ogunbadejo Is Addressing Housing Needs Of Abuja Residents

By Jane Okafor, Abuja

With the increasing housing deficit in the country, particularly in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, and knowing that there is a credible real estate firm - TOMS Properties Nigeria Limited, committed to contributing its quota towards addressing it is commendable as it makes real economic sense to key into the opportunity the real estate firm  offers.

TOMS Properties Nigeria Limited is a household name among popular real estate companies in Abuja. The real estate company is known for its pocket - friendly houses which has made housing affordable to many, including the low and middle income earners residing in Abuja.

But not much is known about the energetic and visionary young man, who is behind the idea.

It is no other person than Jimi Dayo Ogunbadejo, an Ondo-born industrial relations graduate who is the initiator of the idea.

Born into the family of Ogungbadejo over four decades ago, he is a native of Ilara Mokin in Ondo state.

His passion for real estates started when he was barely 8 while following his mother, a popular contractor in Abuja, to sites.

Ogugbadejo said that his passion for real estate took root from following his mother to construction sites when he was in primary school.

"Since then I have developed passion for construction and building, but at the same time I did not have oppourtunity to do science in secondary school.

"When my siblings are not ready to go to site, I will be the first person to show interest and will followed my mum", he revealed.

He revealed that the books he read while growing up also exposed him to real estate world and inspired him to become a real estate player instead of searching for non - existing job in the higly saturated labour market when he graduated from higher institution.

He added, "when I was growing up, I read a book that says it is good to be your own boss rather than looking for a white collar job.

"The quote inspired me and I discovered my passion is in building and construction which I have been doing since I was a kid.

"It took me months to decide what I want to do after graduation. But at the end I choose my passion over what I went to learn in school."

He has through TOMS estate, make housing affordable, seamless and accessible to people.

The prices of property within the estate are also standardized to meet different land sizes, building prototypes and income grades.
