The chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Solomon Adeola has expressed shock and sadness at the demise of Senator Biyi Durojaiye at the age of 88 saying that Nigeria lost a great and true democrat who contributed immensely to the socio-political and economic development of the nation.

The 4th Republic lawmaker, Senator Biyi Durojaiye died in Lagos on Tuesday morning, a prominent politician in Ijebu Igbo, the hometown of the deceased told The Daily Crucible

He played an active role in the push by the NADECO to rid Nigeria of the military juntas and was even incarcerated by the Sani Abacha regime on account of the struggle but later set free by General AbdulSalami Abubakar after the death of Abacha.

Durojaiye was the immediate past Chairman, Board of Commissioners for Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

In a condolence message at the news of his death due to ill health, the senator said the loss at this time has deprived the nation of his wealth of experience over many years of active participation in the area of economic and monetary policies, politics, communications and jurisprudence.

The Senator who made this known in a statement by his media adviser,  Chief Kayode  Odunaro, stressed that Durojaiye's demise represents a great loss to his family, the people of Ogun State and Nigeria.

“I am particularly sad at the demise of one of my role models in politics who showed much interest in my political aspirations including donation to my campaign fund at some point after he was convinced of my capacity and ability for high political office as a member of the APC National Assembly Screening Committee that screened me to contest for Senate. He was a complete gentleman and a technocrat in politics that lent his vast knowledge for the cause of pro-democracy, good governance and service to the nation” the senator stated.

He prayed for the peaceful reposed of his soul and the fortitude for the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss of the patriarch of the family.
