Golf Tournament : All Is Set For Princess Oyeghe's Lady Captain's Day In Edo

Sports enthusiasts, particularly lovers of golf genre of sports, are all eager to storm Benin, the Edo State capital,  as after many months of waiting, the Princess Oyeghe's Lady Captain's Day is now poised to tee-off at Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS), GRA, Benin City tomorrow, Saturday.

The time for the epic golf tournament  of club - and - ball sport is 6:30am .

Golf is readily one of the most popular sports in the world, an estimated 60 million people around the world regularly play golf according to Golf Today magazine.

In Nigeria, golf has become a versatile sport that is competing with football sports in a number of ways having attained a prominent position in the consciousness of Nigerians. 

The scheduled tournament in Edo is packaged by Princess Habiibah Oyeghe Oyarekhua, Lady Captain, BCGS and will feature top amateur golfers from various golf clubs across the country in honour of the lady captain whose exemplary contributions have redefined the face of leadership in the club.

The veteran broadcaster and Afemai born Princess told sports writers that the tournament is yet another opportunity for reunion of all  golf sports loving friends and family for a historic Lady Captain's Day.

She said it should have been hosted long ago, but had to be differed till now following the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic and attendant requirements of safe physical and social distancing, ban on large gatherings,  inter - state and international  travels among other restrictions.

She noted that despite the pandemic, Saturday 10th July 2021 has been ordained by God for Lady Captain’s Day Tournament and is indeed thankful.

However, some of the golfers expected to grace the event with their presence include the Deputy Governor of Edo State,  Philip Shaibu, his wife: Mrs Maryann Philip Shaibu, Secretary  to the Government  of Edo State, Osarodion Ogie Esq., Past Captains, Lady Golfers, the Swingin Suzies among others.

According to her, participants at the tournament will battle for the trophies and other prizes in the men's and ladies singles, veteran and super veterans, while guests golfers would not be left out.

She assured of hitch free golf tournament with enough to eat and drink.

Those who distinguished themselves will smile home with trophies and special awards to tournaments sponsors.

Dinner and awards Presentation at the one day event is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
