Governor Dapo Abiodun has assured of his administration's financial support to the 20 local government areas of Ogun State to enhance the effectiveness and responsiveness of the newly elected chairmen while performing their duties.

Abiodun urged the chairman not to levy heavy financial burden on their people under the guise of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) drive, even as he also advised them to work in humility with the electorate to achieve distinctive results in their respective domains.

He stated "My administration will support this new elected chairman with necessary funding that they need to be effective," Abiodun pledged.

He spoke at the Arcade ground within the State Secretariat, Okemosan, Abeokuta shortly after the council chairmen and the Vice chairmen were sworn in by the Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu on Monday.

This occasion was graced by All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains, including Chief Bode Mustapha, Hon. Kunle Adeyemi, some members of the State and National Assemblies, traditional and religious leaders across the State.

The governor also advised them to buckle up to make themselves ready for service as leaders.

He also urged them to provide good governance to their people and not practice 'Mr or Mrs I know it all' on those on whose mandate they hold in trust.

The governor said : "The Local Government is not just a tier of government stated in our country’s 1999 constitution, as amended; it is the closest to the people and so much is expected from you. Therefore, your assumption of office must bring a new vista of development to our people at the grassroots.

"In doing this, you must be inclusive; you must be transparent; you must be accountable; you must be fair; you must be just; you must be equitable; you must obey the rule of law; you must provide good governance; you must be judicious.

"Above all you cannot afford to turn yourselves to “Mr or Mrs I know it all.” A wise man once said, “Even though a ruler may be wise as a sage, he must humble himself and yield to others. Then the intelligent will offer him their counsel and the brave will exert themselves to the fullest for him”

"You must also understand that you cannot rely exclusively on allocations from the Federal Government. You will have to be creative in generating funds internally, and incorporate the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model. But in doing this, you cannot afford to over-burden the people who are the essence and facilitators of your being in power."

According to him, they should also take  cue from his approach at the State level by being cerebral; methodical; systemic and ensure strategic allocation of funds.

Speaking earlier, one of the newly elected chairman, Wale Adedayo, of Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, pledgedm to make seurity and agriculture the focal point of his administration.

Adedayo who defeated his rivals -  Sanusi Sulaimon of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) Johnson Omolara of the New Nigerian Peoples Party(NNPP) and  Zacheus Adewale of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), said he would attend to security matters with adequate attention and embark on regenerative agricultural policy to improve the welfare of the people.

The All Progressives Congress(APC) politician also pledged to harness the rich human and natural resources of the local government to drive growth and development of Ijebu East.
