People suspected to be assassins have struck the Minna, Niger State, residence of  the Registrar of the National Examinations Council, Professor Godswill Obioma, and murdered him.

The hoodlums armed with guns stormed Obioma's home in the Niger State capital and snuffed life out of him, The Daily Crucible learnt

The slain 67-year-old indigene of Abia State, became the NECO Registrar in May 2020.

The grieving widow, Mrs Elizabeth Obioma, who spoke with newsmen said “the assassins came in and killed him and left without taking anything.”

But a twist crept in as a circular believed to have emanated from Mustapha Abdul, the NECO Director, Human Resource Management, who relied on family sources, stated that the Registrar died after a "brief illness" and urged the staff to remain calm.

Also, the son of the deceased in a letter addressed to the Director Human Resource Management, NECO, Mustapha Abdul, attributed the death of his father to a “brief illness,” thus, leaving people in confusion regarding cause of death.

The letter reads,  “Dear Sir, this is to formally inform you that my father, Prof. Godswill Obioma, the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO passed to eternal glory yesterday, 31/5/2021, after a brief illness.

“We request that you kindly notify the Board, Management and the entire staff of the Council of this development.
“We shall keep you duly informed.”
