... Pledges Not Challenge The Zone's Congress Or Its Outcome

The Daily Crucible

At last, the camp of South-West Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, met other stakeholders in Ogun State on Friday, declaring its acceptance of the just concluded  Southwest PDP congress and the emergence of Amb. Taofeek Arapaja as Chairman.

Arapaja won the southwest chairmanship seat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after a keen contest in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

The former Oyo Deputy Governor was declared winner of the poll by chairman of the Congress who doubled as  Benue Deputy Governor, Benson Abounu.

Arapaja belongs to the camp of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and polled 343 votes to defeat Dr Eddy Olafeso, who scored 330.

Eddy Olafeso was the candidate of Ayo Fayose.

Shortly after the declaration of the winner, the PDP in Oyo State  congratulated the winner,  describing the victory of Amb.Taofeek Arapaja as 'win win' victory for him, Olafeso, PDP and others but the outcome did not sit well with Fayose and his camp, even as the former governor alleged that the process was rigged against his man.

However, in a meeting in Abeokuta, the camp eventually declared for peace, unity and progress of the party in the zone, saying non of the members will challenge the congress or the outcome in court.

The group identified the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) as the  common enemy of PDP and Nigerians, vowing to join hands and work together to  unhorse APC from the throne of power and redeem the people from its shackles of bad governance.

Hon Ladi Adebutu and the State Chairman, Dr Sikirulai Ogundele, led the meeting where the group also condemned the deployment of violence before and during the congress, advising that use of thugs should stamped out of the party in its future engagements.

And in statement by the group's spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, reads; “After meeting with stakeholders in Ogun State today, it was further resolved that the Fayose group has accepted the outcome of the South-West congress.
“That non of our candidates will go to court as we will stand by what we said during and after the congress.
“The group thanks all delegates to the congress and appreciates Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and in particular former Governor Ayo Fayose, for his rare demonstration of leadership.

“It congratulates Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja and promised to work with him in the interest of the party in the zone.

“It expresses commitment to working for the victory of the party in 2022 and 2023 elections.

“The group condemns the use of violence before and during the congress and urge that use of thugs should be discouraged in our future engagements.

”That the group admonishes Governor Makinde to rise above ‘yesterday’ and reciprocate its good gesture and show of sportsmanship by providing the required leadership with maturity, sincerity and honesty of purpose in the overall good of the party.

“Lastly, the group reiterates that the common enemy as PDP members and Nigerians is the APC, we must join hands and work together to rescue of people from its misgovernance.”
