Odumakin's Death Is A Terrible Blow To Afenifere, Nigeria - General Secretary

The Pan-Yoruba sociopolitical organisation, Afenifere, said it is devastated by the death of its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yinka Odumakin.

Odumakin, a public analyst, activist and politician was said to have died in Lagos on Saturday morning.

Although, the family is yet to make any statement confirming or discrediting the news of the death but reliable sources close to Odumakin's aides have confirmed it to newsmen.

One of the sources said he and others were on their way to the morgue to deposit Odumakin's remains.

Reacting to the demise, Afenifere's  Secretary-General, Basorun Sehinde described Odumakin's death as terrible blow to the Yoruba sociocultural organisation and Nigeria.

“It’s a terrible blow. A terrible blow to me as a person because we’ve been so intimate.

“He’s been my right-hand man in Afenifere management. It’s terrible. Yinka should not have gone at this time.

“It’s a terrible blow to Afenifere and Nigeria. We’ve lost a brilliant chap with intelligent and brilliant ideas.

“This is sad, very sad. What a pity. I pity his wife Joe," Arogbofa said.

The Daily Crucible recalls Odumakin had long battled diabetes and diabetic-related complications many times but survived all in the past.

It is not yet clear if there was a relapse and the Afenifere's Spokesman did tell some newsmen days back that he would want pay more attention to his health and would not be able to pick his calls or respond to enquires.

He ecently fell critically ill during a visit to the Governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola and was promptly offered an emergency medical care and moved to 
to Lagos afterwards upon stabilisation of his condition.
