Three Traders To Die By Hanging For Robbery In Ondo

Obieze Sylvanus, Ikechukwu Chukwu and Chidiebere Obi - all traders, are to die by hanging for conspiracy and robbery committed in Ondo State.

An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure sentenced them to death on Friday, having found them guilty of conspiracy and robbery.

The three were arraigned on a seven-count charge but the court convicted them on same.

They were alleged to have in 2017 raided 11 houses  in quick succession in one night and held residents around Isolo axis and Adegbola area of Akure in terror.

But mother luck failed them while sharing their loot at an uncompleted building as Operatives  of the disbanded SARS swooped on them and arrested the three.

While the trial lasted, the Prosecution led by State Chief Legal Officer, Bunmi Koyenikan, assembled eight witnesses, including some victims of the gang, who gave evidence in respect of the crime.

In his judgment, Justice William Lamide found the three accused guilty on the seven count charges.

Justice Olamide convicted the three traders based on their confessional statements and testimonies of their victims.

The court sentenced them to seven years imprisonment for conspiracy and death by hanging for armed robbery.
