Road Carnage : Ogun Lawmakers Summon Dangote Company Over Its Drivers' Recklessness

From Ayobami Ife, Abeokuta

Ogun State House of Assembly on Tuesday summoned the Management of Dangote Industries Limited to appear before it in respect of the avoidable and almost routine loss of lives on roads in the state, allegedly, being caused by the reckless driving of the company's trucks drivers.

The invitation, The Daily Crucible gathered, is to create an avenue for deliberations on how to address the issue and find lasting solution to it.

This followed an avalanche of public complaints against the recklessness of the company's drivers which were brought to the notice of the state legislators.

Speaker Kunle Oluomo made this known during plenary while responding to the submissions of a member representing Ijebu-North (I) State Constituency, Hon. Slyvester Niyi, who decried the carefree attitude of the drivers leading to the killing of some members of his constituency.

Oluomo lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for the construction and rehabilitation of roads across the State.

He, however, appealed for the consideration of Station-Oke-Agbo-Molusi road for construction as preferred by the residents of Ijebu-North I State Constituency even as he called on the State government  through the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to hasten palliative work on the failed portions of the Lafenwa-Rounda Road, especially Oju-Irin-police station and other parts of the State.
