Ogun State government has disclosed that it was ready to feed a total of 60,391 primary school pupils in the state this June as the Federal Government-funded “Home-grown feeding programme for school children” begins nationwide.

The state’s Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Femi Ogunbanwo, gave the assurance after inspecting the various food items ranging from bags of rice, beans, crates of eggs among other items provided for the scheme.

The items were delivered to the Ogun State Government by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

Ogunbanwo revealed  that  over 180,000 pupils had been enumerated for the school  feeding programme in the state, saying the government would commence with one-quarter of the population in its first phase.

The Commissioner said the distribution of food items would first start in Ogun Central senatorial district, before extending to the remaining two districts.

Ogunbanwo explained that apart from school children listed for the  scheme,  Governor Dapo Abiodun had also stockpiled a warehouse with food items in Shagamu meant for distribution to the elderly, poor and vulnerable ones.

He said: “As you all know, this is a federal government-funded programme; ours is just to provide the logistics and ensure that the food items are duly delivered to the children at home.

“We are visiting the children at home because of the Covid-19 situation and all our field workers and cooks are ready for the exercise."
