Ogun Assembly Speaker Advocates Support For Indigenous Anti - COVID - 19 Inventions


Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kunle Oluomo has harped on the need for individuals and governments to promote and support all indigenous inventions meant to combat the novel CoronaVirus pandemic in the country.

Oluomo said the nation's march to the path of greatness and economic self - reliance could only come sooner than expected, if indigenous inventions and technologies by Nigerians received necessary support and encouragement.

The Speaker spoke in Ilaro, Ogun State, while inspecting the equipment designed and built by the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, for treatment and management of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Equipment inspected include two models of Mechanical Ventilator, Multiple Outlets mechanical Handwashing and Sanitizing machines, Electronically operated Walk-through-Door disinfectant, a Movable Environmental Sanitizer, among others. 

Oluomo who was obviously elated with the innovations, commended the ingenuity of the institution's management towards flattening the curve of the pandemic in the country, noting that the Polytechnic was due to become a University of technology.

He promised to encourage members of the State Assembly to acquire the Multiple Outlets Handwashing and Sanitizing machines for schools in their various constituencies, calling on well meaning Individuals to support the initiative of the institution by patronizing the products

He also advised the nation needs to look in the direction of technical education in order to be independent of other countries, nurture independent and self - reliant youths and open vista of opportunities for them to realise their creative potentials.

He recalled that 'On June 2, the State  House of Assembly passed a Law to amend the State's Technical and Vocational Education Law, which is aimed at encouraging the youths to embrace technical education'

Earlier while conducting the Speaker and his entourage round the equipment, Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Olusegun Aluko noted that all components used for the projects were locally sourced, lamenting that the equipment could not be produced enmasse due to paucity of funds.

He appeals for Support in order to make the Equipment available  in large quantities , so as to support the fight against the global pandemic. 

The Speaker was accompanied to the Polytechnic by the member representing Yewa South in the State Assembly, Hon. Bolanle Latifat Ajayi as well as the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Culture and Tourism, Hon. Yusuf Adejojo.
