Senator Magnus Abe, Akinyelure Make New NNPC Board

.. As Immediate Past GMD of NNPC, Baru Maikanti, Dies At 60

Senator Msgnus Abe( South South), Chief Pius Akinyelure (South East)  and four others have been appointed into the newly reconstituted  Management Board of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President (Media and Publicity), stated in. a release on Saturday, just as the former Group Managing  Director of NNPC, Baru Maikanti, is reported dead. Dr Maikanti died  at 60 after a brief illness.

Adesina's statement on NNPC new board reads :"President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), after the expiration of the term of the board members appointed in 2016.

"Members of the new Board are: Mohammed Lawal (North West), Tajudeen Umar (North East), Adamu Mahmood  Attah (North Central), Senator Magnus Abe (South South), Dr Stephen Dike (South East), and Chief Pius Akinyelure (South West).

"The new board will be in place for three years."

On the immediate-past managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr Maikanti Baru,  The Daily Crucible gathered that he passed on at about 2am on Saturday after suddenly falling ill on Thursday.

Although, the the nature of his ailment or cause of death could not be confirmed at the time of filing this report.

No confirmation also that the death is COVID  - 19 related, even though  most death at this period of global pandemic are suspected to suspected to be due to the dreadful disease.

However, the death of Maikanti  was also confirmed by the current head of the corporation, Mr Mele Kyari, on his twitter handle this morning.

He tweeted: “My brother, my friend and my mentor, Dr Maikanti Kachalla Baru, immediate past GMD of NNPC died late last night”.
