Man Kills Wife In Ogun On Christmas Day

The Police in Ogun State have arrested 37 years old  Mutiu Sonola for beating his wife, Zainab shotayo, 34, to death over minor disagreement on Christmas Day.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who disclosed this in a statement on Boxing Day, stated that Mutiu took to his heels after beating his wife to death but was arrested by the detectives from the Ibara Division same day.

Abimbola, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), added that the corpse of the woman has been deposited at the morgue of the state Hospital, Ijaiye,  for autopsy.

The Police Spokesman stated: "The suspect was arrested on Wednesday 25th of December 2019 following a report by the father of the deceased who complained at Ibara division that he was called on phone that his daughter was having a misunderstanding with her husband and that she has been beaten to coma by the husband. 

"He stated  that he quickly went to the scene and rushed her daughter to the General hospital, ijaye where the doctor confirmed her dead.

"As soon as the suspect realised that the victim is dead, he took to his heels. On the strength of the report, the DPO Ibara division SP Dada Olusegun mobilised his detectives and went after the suspect. His hiding place was eventually located and he was promptly arrested. 

"Preliminary investigation revealed that the man is fond of beating the deceased at any slightest provocation and that the incident of that fateful day was a very minor disagreement. 

"The corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the general hospital mortuary for autopsy. 

"The commissioner of police,  Kenneth Ebrimson, has given instruction for the immediate transfer of the suspect to the  homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and prosecution."
