Ogun Seals Houses In Abeokuta Without Toilets

Ogun State Ministry of Environment on Thursday sealed off four houses at Igbore and Isale-Ake areas of Abeokuta following their failure to provide toilet facilities.

The state government elected to sealed the affected homes at the expiration of 21 days Abatement Notice served on them which they failed to comply with.

The Director Environmental Health Management, Sanitarian Bhuri Jokosenumi, led a  team of Environmental Health Workers to effect the action, said the four houses would remain sealed until they construct toilets.

He explained that they would also  pay appropriate fine levied against them, stressing toilet was a fundamental part of a building approval, which must be strictly adhere to.
Jokosenumi said government would continue to sensitize the public on the hazards of open defecation, as Nigeria is ranked second behind India in open defecation, calling on landlords to comply with the National Environmental Health practise Regulation of 2016.

He warned other landlords whose houses are without toilets to make provision for such immediately or have their houses sealed, reiterating that the exercise is continuous and not limited to a local government or zone.
