Why I Accepted Diamond Award - Okowa

The Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has given insight into why he accepted the diamond award of "Good Governance" bestowed on him in Asaba by the Pastors' Forum  for Sustainable Development (PFSD).

Okowa said he wholeheartedly elected to receive the honour from PFSD because it came from a godly group.

The award was received on Thursday shortly  after the PFSD Annual Lecture themed; Harnessing Godly Values: A Panacea to Lasting  Development in Nigeria, and was delivered by Prof.Victor Peretomode, the Vice - Chancellor,  Delta State University, Abraka.

The Governor who is seeking re- election for another term of four years on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), added that the group has been praying for the peace and progress of Delta state.

Okowa noted that it was the grace of God that has helped his Government all along since he became Governor, saying that visionary leadership comes from God, the giver of wisdom. 

According to him, it is was not enough to talk about love, it should also be sincerely manifested in one's life.

He said:"I'm willing to receive this(award) because it is godly and coming from a group that has been praying  for Delta State. 

"We have to apply what we have been taught about love from the word of God, and and also forgive others to ensure partnership in politics."

He lauded the organisers of the Pastors' forum, stressing that people in politics need payers to overcome the attempts by the devil to pull leaders down.

He commended the traditional leaders present at the Orchid Hotels, Asaba, venue of the award ceremony for submitting their authority to God.

The Governor also extolled  the spiritual programmes that has continued to  usher in peace and development in Delta State, saying that without God, no leader can do well.

Others who received the PFSD awards included the Primate of Church of Nigera, Anglican Communion, Most. Rev.  Nicholas Okoh, Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Delta State, Bishop Kingsley Enakhire,  a Federal lawmaker, Hon Evelyn Obodo, and the Pere of Simbiri Kingdom,  HRM Pere Charles Ayemi-Botu.
