In less than 24 hours after armed thugs attacked the campaign ground of the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party(SDP), Prince Rotimi Paseda, and forced his political rally in Ijebu to come to an abrupt end, another band of thugs suspected to be hirelings of some politicians have shot into a crowd of supporters waiting for a front line governorship candidate, Prince Adedapo Abiodun, in Odogbolu area of Ogun state on Saturday.

The hoodlums said to be operating in an unmarked Toyota Camry and a bus allegedly opened fire on the unsuspecting crowd waiting  to receive Abiodun, the All Progressives Congress(APC) flag bearer, at Odogbolu Garage, and leading to injuries on  some of them, including a Police officer.

The Daily Crucible gathered that while the police officer was hit by bullets, many others were injured during an ensuing commotion and stampede following the sporadic gunshots by the armed thugs.

In a release by the Publicity Secretary Secretary of the State Caretaker Committee, Ogun State APC, Mr. Tunde Oladunjoye, those injured in the gun attack have been taken to the hospital for treatment.

Oladunjoye added that the attack starkly confirmed an alarm earlier raised by the APC Caretaker Committee that there were plans by purveyor(s) of violence in the Gateway state to unleash terror on Abiodun, his convoy and supporters.

He explained that the attackers on “sighting the mobile police escort of Architect Owodunni Opayemi, opened fire on him at close range.

“The police officer now has a bullet lodged in his cheek and has been rushed to a private hospital, after it was discovered, on arrival, that the General Hospital Odogbolu was locked and not operating.

“The attack this evening has confirmed our earlier alarm that there were indeed plans to attack the convoy of Prince Dapo Abiodun and kill his followers.”

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident, stated that the Area Commander, Ijebu Area Command and the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Odogbolu Divisional Police Headquarters have been directed to go after the hoodlums and arrest them.

"The incident happened at the Odogbolu round about and not at the campaign ground. Some people in a bus shot indiscriminately along the road consequent upon which a policeman was slightly injured.

"The injured officer has been treated and discharged. He is presently at the station making statement.

"Meanwhile the commissioner of police has directed the Area Commander and the DPO to ensure the arrest of the hoodlums,” Oyeyemi stated.
