Prepare For Mother Of All Protests Against Media Censorship, Others, Group Tells Nigerians

By Jane Okafor, Abuja

All Workers Convergence (AWC), a  socio-economic rights, social justice and good governance advocate group, has called on Nigerians to prepare for a mother of all protests over what it described as media censorship, unemployment and the worsening insecurity in parts of the country.

AWC said it feels disturbed that the present government has proven not to be different from the previous ones despite the assurances of hope in its electoral promises, stressing that it is surprising that of all the multifarious problems confronting Nigerians as a people, what government could summon courage to do is to try to cage the media.

The National Coordinator of AWC, Comrade Emelieze Andrew who made this known to The Daily Crucible, warned that the government of the day is planning to totally control the media, while Nigerians are waisting away and killings are now a routine.

Emelieze urged Nigerians not to be tired of protesting to end a regime of press censorship and bad governance in the country.

Emelieze stated:"Of late, an attempt is made to criminalize protest and recently , our so called government is trying to turn Nigeria into a totalitarian country through the nascent move to censor the media. More a of government trying to take the laws in her hands.

"As our government is planning to totally control the media, many more are waisting away, while daily killings is now an order in Nigeria, to the extent that it s now obvious to all that Buhari has taken Nigeria to the state of nature. Definitely, nobody feels secured  any longer.

"Based on the unfortunate situation in our hands, we as as a people have developed a culture of  resistance against bad governance as seen in the avalanche of protest nationwide. We as a people have encouraged other citizens to get involved and secure our tomorrow through protest that will help terminate bad governance in Nigeria.

"We had earlier called for national protest against insecurity and poverty in Nigeria .We urge all to consolidate on the different national protest and push further for more and more massive protest nationwide. We charged all great minds not to get tired of protesting as protest has shown to be a viable means to chasing away bad governance everywhere; our case in Nigeria will not be different.

"As a working class and labour movement, we the Nigerian workers and students are calling on all Patriots to prepare for the mother of all protest.

"Enough of the deceit,  our government has shown to us that they have nothing good to offer us. Our people are called upon to get ready to swoop on Aso rock for a continuous and permanent protest that will engender a people's democracy.

" We appreciate all groups, coalitions and activist who had recently taken part in protest  across the federation. We call for more protest that will begin now and everywhere untill it turns massive and ends bad governance in Nigeria.

"Nobody will mobilise anybody, let us mobilise ourselves. If truly we are pained and we truly have passion for our country then let the protests begin now. On any issue we see  to be wrong, let the response be through peaceful street protest.

"It is now a duty for us all to protest.
ln the face  of uncertainty, we are left with no other option other than to show resistance against our collective challenge. Together, we will sustain the barricades until we chase away our oppressors."
