President Muhammadu Buhari has joined members of the music and entertainments community as well as other sympathizers to mourn veteran Nigerian musician and producer, Christopher Ajilore popularly known as Chris Ajilo as he finally journeys out of the world tomorrow, Friday.

The highlife legend died at the age of 91 after a brief illness at his Ijebu -Ijesha hometown, Osun State on February 20, this year.

The Eko O Gba Gbere’ crooner and renowned music producer, was a bandleader, producer and record industry executive whose contributions to Nigerian music were described as legendary, broad and remarkable.

He was said to have undergone training in England on the tenor saxophone, returned to Nigeria in the early ’50s and immediately floated his own band, Chris Ajilo & His Cubanos.

Buhari in his condolences to the entertainment industry, particularly musicians and producers, over the passing of the renowned instrumentalist and instructor,  commiserated with family, friends and professional colleagues of the highly celebrated artiste.

The President noted that Pa Chris Ajilo, who was band leader of the National Orchestra for Nigeria’s independence in 1960, completely altered the musical industry in Nigeria, giving it more depth, meaning and appeal, as he inspired a genre that was accepted across class, age and creed.

He stressed that as the remains of the multi-talented instrumentalist go to rest on April 16, the President believes the legacies of discipline, focus and professionalism that Pa Ajilo brought into the industry, after studying music for many years in England, will be remembered by generations.

President Buhari also prayed that the music teacher will find eternal rest with God, while the many musicians and producers he mentored will carry on with his vision, according to Femi Adesina
Special Adviser (Media & Publiciy) to Buhari in a release.
