EndSARS : Ogun Warns Against Planned Looting, Threatens Dire Consequences

From Ayobami Ife, Abeokuta

The Ogun State Government has warned those planning to attack  public / private warehouses - storages, commercial premises , public buildings and private businesses not to go ahead with their plan.

The Daily Crucible, observed that armed soldiers were stationed in some locations in Abeokuta, to secure both private and public properties from being attacked and looted by hoodlums under the guise of EndSARS protest.

Our reporter sighted armed soldiers who were brought in a military pick - up who took positioned at the Abeokuta branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) on IBB Boulevard and the Ijeja - Jide Jones intersection of the Omida - Sapon road,  was barricade  to ensure safety of Government House, Isale Igbein, Ibara Divisional Police Headquarters, the Police M.T.D  unit, National  Correctional Service(NCS) Ibara and the CBN. The soldiers keep vigil over them.

Also, about seven armed soldiers were stationed at one of the entrances to Ogun State Government Secretariat, Oke - Mosan, to secure both public and  private facilities along that axis.

Another set of soldiers were stationed in a strategic location where relief materials and COVID - 19 palliatives were said to have been warehoused.

The measures became necessary following audio messages trending in some circles detailing plans by some criminal elements who had hijacked the peaceful #EndSARS protests to attack government properties in different locations in the state with the intention of looting such.

Ogun State government warned that while recognising the legitimate demands of the #EndSARS protesters, it will deal decisively with any act or conduct by hoodlums  likely to lead to a breach of public peace.

In a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Odusile, the government threatened dire consequences should anyone attack any of such facilities.

“Our combined team of law enforcement agents have been put on the alert to protect public buildings and similar properties belonging to the government and other prominent facilities in all locations around the state.

"Anyone planning to attack any of these facilities is advised in their interest against such move. The government while in support of the legitimate demands of the #EndSARS protesters, will deal decisively with any act or conduct by hoodlums  likely to lead to a breach of public peace," the statement reads.
