It appears Nigerian Government through the Central Bank has given directive to selected importers to import 262,000 tonnes of maize and corn as shortage of these essential farm produce hits the country.
Documen sighted by The Daily Crucible and suspected to have emanated from the Tarrif and Trade Department of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Wuse, Abuja, shows an approval was granted to four importers to import the produce into the country to cover shortfall in local production.
The import window is expected to lapse after October this year.
However, there is no official confirmation of the document as of the time of filing the report.
