The Daily Crucible

Three officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were struck dead by a mysterious lightning that followed Wednesday morning drizzling and thunderstorm when the Corps' Command post at Ilese - Ijebu, Ogun State, was hit.

The unfortunate incident occurred around 10a.m at the old Toll Gate axis of Ilese town in Ijebu North East Local Government Area of the state.

The Daily Crucible learnt that the lightning  struck while the FRSC officials were just gathering for the routine  morning parade within the precinct of their Ilese Command post at the old toll gate corridor of the Ijebu - Ode - Ore expressway.

Though, no official statement has been issued in connection with the tragedy but a senior member of the Corps, who spoke in anonymity disclosed that about 12 officials were in the office when the lightning preceding a thunderstorm,  struck.

The FRSC Public Education and Enlightenment Officer, in the state, Florence Okpe, could not confirm the incident but promised to issue a statement later.

Okpe disclosed that the Command's new Sector Commander, Umar Galadunci, has dashed to Ilese to ascertain what transpired.

The Daily Crucible gathered that the state's Special Security outfit  - "OP MESA," have taken over the security of the area, sending onlookers away and preventing journalists from taking pictures.

Also, traditional worshipers believed to be Sango adherents were said to have been sighted at the scene, ostensibly to perform some traditional rites on the corpses before releasing them to government officials for burial.
