There appears to be a stepping up of attacks on the Operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, by "unruly" motorcyclists who often take to violence to escape the Corps' arrest for allegedly violating traffic regulations.
A cyclist and his passengers allegedly assaulted FRSC Patrol team at the Warewa area of Ogun State, on Tuesday, and "attacked" the Operatives "vigorously" before the assailants were overpowered and handed over to the Police.
The attackers also damaged the windshield of the FRSC Patrol vehicle.
The Sector Commander, FRSC Sector Command, Ogun State, Clement Oladele, who Chronicles the incident, said the occurred when the Patrol team was trying descalate a situation that could have led to an accident.
He stated: "An incident occurred yesterday 14 January 2020 at about 1030hours on the Lagos - Ibadan Expressway when a senior Officer of the Corps on routine monitoring of the corridor noticed a vehicle driving against traffic but immediately the driver driving against traffic sighted the FRSC vehicle, he became gripped by fear, he swerved and faced the vehicle on coming behind the FRSC's Vehicle.
"This made the driver of the FRSC's vehicle pulled over to prevent the situation escalating. In the process, a speeding motorcycle riding with a pillion (passenger) momentarily lost control of the speeding motorbike but when he stabilised, he stopped, parked the bike and went straight to attack the FRSC's team.
"While the motorcycle rider went for the windshield (windscreen) of the FRSC's vehicle with registration number C0180RS, which he slammed heavily with his fist and wilfully got the windshield broken, the pilion on his own went for one of the Marshals and attacked him vigorously.
"Not satisfied they both went to attack mother members of the FRSC Team before the two violent motocyclists were overpowered and handed over to the DPO Warewa Police Station."
