Prominent Urhobo leaders have faulted the clamour by the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assemby, Hon. Sherriff Oborevwori, to retain his office as Speaker even for the forthcoming 9th Legislative state Assembly, The Daily Crucible learnt on Monday.

Sources close to the Urhobo leaders said the ethnic group viewed the alleged self-perpetuating plot of Oborevwori as annoying and inconsiderate, vowing  to ensure that the lawmaker representing Ethiope West rmerged the next Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly.

The Daily Crucible further gathered that the leaders, in Ugheri, voiced out their condemnation Oborevwori's quest to retain the speaker's position beyond June, stressing that the moves portend unhealthy legislative development.

"All is not well with the Delta State House of Assembly," a source quoted one of the Urhobo leaders who was annoyed over the matter to have said.

According to the source, the Urhobo leaders  met and zoned the Speakership seat to Ethiope Federal Constituency.

They decried what they alleged as  Oborevwori's use of proxies to and his online rats has been to spread all manner of calumny against the leaders and the member representing Ethiope West.

The leaders decried an earlier statement credited to Sheriff Oborevwori that the member representing Ethiope West cannot be speaker in Delta State.

They urged elected members of the Delta State House of Assembly to resist any plot by anti-democratic forces to impose Sheriff Oborevwori  on them.

They also urged People's Democratic Party (PDP) leaders to join forces with those willing to make the continuation of Oborevwori as speaker after June impossible.

"Asking Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori to continue as speaker after June is a total disregard for the interest of our people. We know the members of the Delta State House of Assembly cannot allow it."
