The National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS) on Tuesday called on the out - going governor Ibikunle Amosun to settle the five year accumulated bursary arrears allegedly owed the Ogun state indigenes in tertiary institutions by his administration.

NANS also urged Amosun to congratulate the Governor - elect, Prince Dapo Abiodun, of the All Progressives Congress(APC) on his victory at the last Saturday, March 9, governorship election, as a mark of sportsmanship.

The NANS National Public Relations Officer(PRO), Azeez Adeyemi, made the call while addressing journalists at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), Ogun State Council, Abeokuta, the state capital.

Adeyemi who congratulated Abiodun on his victory on behalf of NANS, said they  have unalloyed confidence in Abiodun that he would deliver on his campaign manifestoes.

He urged him to ensure that he hits the ground running, explaining that the Governor - elect  has been tested, trusted and with God on his side, he won't disappoint the people of Ogun state, especially the electorate, who cast their ballots for him on conviction that he would run an open, responsive and accountable government.

The NANS PRO also advised Abiodun to urgently set up a Committee to look into the every day financial transaction of the state government and particularly pay attention to the treasury, to avert unnecessary drain on the state resources.

He recalled that the road was full of intimidations from agents of the state government, who were uncomfortable with the students' support for Dapo Abiodun, saying despite the threats,  the students remained resolute and resilient in mobilising their colleagues to work for the victory of the APC gubernatorial candidate.

Adeyemi noted  that the outcome of the poll attested to the fact that "hard work pays," Assuring that no "thugs" and "touts" under whatever name could reverse the victory.

The students body also congratulated the Governor - elect in Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) even as it called for the  reinstatement of the Students Union President of Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, and compensate him for embarrassment caused him when he was evicted from the class.

Adeyemi warned that if this advice is not heeded within 24 hours by the owners of the institution and its management, NANS would storm the road to protest the injustice against their colleague and leader.

Adeyemi said: "Hard work pays. The joy of gateway people on the Victory of Dapo Abiodun as governor elect cannot be over emphasized. We must thank God for giving gateway people a leader that will take us to promise land.

"The battle was rough, the road was undulating, the incumbent governor, Gov. Ibikunle Amosun intimidated many,  denied many of the enabling environment  but Nigerian students were resolute and resilience to deliver the students community to prince dapo Abiodun, the governor -elect of Ogun state.

"Now, Ogun people can sleep with eyes closed as we look forward to have a better Ogun state that we all have been dreaming of.

"We must appreciate the independent national electoral commission for not playing to the gallery of the ruling party in the state, the election that produced the governor elect of Ogun state was not just free but also fair.

"We must also appreciate the security agencies for their effort, for touch lighting every angle of the state to ensure the safety of life and properties of people of Ogun state.

"It is a sign that together we can!
The mandate has been given by the people of Ogun and we are sure that no battalion of thugs and touts under the umbrella of any nomenclature can take it back, we are aware that the incumbent governor is not happy about the popular decision, unfortunately there is nothing he can do about this, the people have decided.

"Therefore, any attempt or attempted attempt by anybody to cause imbroglio shall intellectually and legally be resisted.

"We hereby want to congratulate the Governor elect, as we are not in doubt that he will deliver to people, his manifesto because he has been tested, trusted and never failed.

"However we call on the governor elect to quickly set up a committee to monitor every transaction of the incumbent governor, check the state treasury to ensure that nobody further drains the state treasury.

"We also use this medium to congratulate seyi makinde, the governor elect of Oyo state, why we want to put in record that the president of the students union of LAUTECH should be reinstated ,also compensated for the embarrassment netted on him and his integrity, that he was sent out of class office.

"However, if this demand is not met within 24hours, NANS is going to do a comprehensive protest as injustice to one is injustice to all.

"Finally,  we call on Governor Ibikunle Amosun to display a good spirit of sportsmanship, thereby make that bold step to congratulate the Governor elect of Ogun state, Prince Dapo Abiodun."
